Oh no, not again! Remember when the IRS had the bright idea to hand over collection activity to private debt collectors? They tried it in 2005 and the Taxpayer Advocate found that the IRS was over twice as successful (in the long run) at collecting old tax debts. So, basically, it was a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. When the Senate passed its version of the highway bill this summer, the politicians included a measure to AGAIN privatize tax debt collection.
This would be bad for everyone, especially the taxpayers. We hope that our reps in Washington reconsider this horrible idea. What do YOU think about private debt collectors working for the US Treasury?
