The IRS has officially announced relief for Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas and other affected states. Individuals who reside or have a business in affected counties are allowed an extension to file their returns (including payroll returns) and pay any tax due. Affected taxpayers are granted additional time to file through Jan. 31, 2018.
(This includes any taxpayers who had a valid extension to file their 2016 return that was due to run out on Oct. 16, 2017.)
AFFECTED COUNTIES INCLUDE: Aransas, Bee, Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Goliad, Harris, Jackson, Kleberg, Liberty, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria, Wharton.
Updated 9/5/17 to include: Austin, Batrop, DeWitt, Gonzales, Karnes, Lavaca, Lee, Polk, Tyler and Walker Counties.
Updated 8/30 to include: Colorado, Fayette, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Montgomery, Newton, Orange, Sabine, San Jacinto and Waller Counties.
